Born and raised in Putāruru, Jahrome Brown returns to the Chiefs this weekend, carrying not just experience but the spirit of his community.

Growing up in Putāruru, Brown experienced the tight-knit support of a small town. For Brown, the support of his hometown remains a guiding force.

“Everyone knows everyone in small towns like that… it’s good to have their support. And for the kids in small communities, knowing that no matter where you come from, you can put your mind to it and make it,” he says.

Brown prepares as the Chiefs take on Moana Pasifika this Saturday in Rotorua, hoping to climb the ladder and honor both their legacy and their future.

“I know Moana is not sitting up the top there. I think they’re down the bottom of the ladder at the moment, but um, I think we’re the only New Zealand team they haven’t beaten yet. So I know they’re going to come, you know, give it their all. So they always do and it’s going to be a physical game. ”

His return is timely for the Chiefs, who currently sit third on the Super Rugby Pacific table, trailing competition leaders, the Hurricanes. This weekend, they face Moana Pasifika in Rotorua.

Off the field, Brown continues to invest in his heritage. He is learning te reo Māori through online courses, dedicating time each week to connect with his culture.
