Formal complaints process for Aukaha News

If you believe Aukaha News has made a mistake in its reporting and wish to lodge a complaint, please follow the process below.

Compose an Email

Draft a new email addressed to the Executive Producer, Roihana Nuri, at the email address [email protected].

Subject Line

Use a clear and concise subject line, such as:

"Formal Complaint Regarding Reporting Mistake" or "Complaint: [Name of Article/Pūrongo/Reel] - [Date it was published]"

Detail the Complaint

In the body of the email, provide all the necessary details, including:

  • The Specific Report: Clearly identify the article, broadcast, or piece of content you are complaining about (including its title, date of publication/broadcast, and link if available).
  • The Alleged Mistake: State as precisely as you can what the alleged mistake is. Quote the problematic section and explain why you believe it is inaccurate, misleading, or unfair.
  • Supporting Evidence: Include any relevant information or evidence that supports your claim.
  • Desired Outcome: Clearly state what action you would like Aukaha News to take (e.g., an investigation, a correction, an apology, or a retraction).
  • Your full name and contact details. Aukaha News will handle any personal information you provide in accordance with its Privacy Statement.

Acknowledge

Aukaha News will acknowledge receipt of your complaint and initiate a review process as soon as reasonably practicable.

Review and Response

Aukaha News will review the complaint against its editorial policies and, if relevant, the Broadcasting Standards. Once the review is completed, Aukaha News will respond to you with its findings and proposed resolution. Aukaha will endeavour to respond to your complaint within 20 working days of its receipt but if your complaint is complex and Aukaha News does not think it will meet this timeline, it will let you know.

If you are not satisfied with the response, you may refer the complaint to the Broadcasting Standards Authority at https://www.bsa.govt.nz/complaints/the-complaints-process/. You will need to attach copies of the article complained of, and any correspondence you have had with us.
