About Waimanea
Waimanea Nuri (Te Arawa, Mataatua, Tainui) is a promising young broadcaster and multimedia journalist with a proven history in storytelling and environmental advocacy. A graduate of the inaugural Te Rito Journalism programme, she also holds a Diploma in Content Creation Broadcasting (Level 5) from Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi. Waimanea began her career as a multimedia reporter at Te Ao Māori News before returning home to Rotorua to work at her local iwi station, Te Arawa FM. She has built a strong portfolio covering critical environmental and community stories across the rohe, including Rotorua’s Te Tūkohu Ngāwhā Mātauranga Māori and Science Design Fair, lake-restoration initiatives like the Uwhi project with the Te Arawa Lakes Trust, and deeply significant cultural history, such as the emotional return of Bishop Fredrick Bennett’s 80-year-old prayer book to his descendants.
