Mangatawa resident Khiarne Taite is among those evacuated from the papakāinga after a slip near a watermain pipe above the marae. Tauranga City Council Emergency Controller Tom McEntyre confirms the evacuation of the Mangatawa Marae, Papakāinga housing, and surrounding area is due to the risk of the watermain breaking if the land subsides further. The order remains in place for the safety of life and property.
